have been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 1982, working
with culturally diverse people of all ages and have been employed in the
mental health field since 1973. I have worked with people recovering from
abuse and trauma, anxiety and depression, as well as 12 Step program members.
I created and then ran several treatment programs for individuals and families, dealing
with abuse recovery. I also taught workshops, locally and nationally, on
integrating mind/body awareness with emotional healing and about opening
and educating the heart, for abuse survivors. I am a seasoned EMDR practitioner
as well as a certified EMDRIA clinician and love that modality as a powerful
tool for growth and for the processing of old patterns, trauma and pain.
I ran group treatment programs and have led groups for decades and have
a great love of groups as a medium for interpersonal change and healing.
I was originally educated in the visual arts, and remain a writer and poet to this day, as well as an active filmmaker, currently in the midst of producing a documentary film project. I believe we are all multi dimensional and often express only a small percent of the totality of who we are. While very conversant with trauma and suffering (30 years with trauma survivors, plus I spent a month in Bosnia after the cease fire working with women and children war survivors), I have regularly been amazed and gratified at the depths of beauty and resilience within the human spirit. My work as a therapist is definitely influenced by a belief in our inner strength and capacity for empowerment, creative flowering, the making of a meaningful life and the development of self worth. I believe people can choose to work to reclaim that beauty and inner authority and can redesign their lives to develop and reflect those strengths and skills. I also believe that life's transitions are doorways toward remaking the self.
My offices are in Half Moon Bay, San Mateo and San Francisco. I have lived on the coast since 1991.
